Author Of Novel That Spawned “Field Of Dreams” W.P. Kinsella Dies At 81

W.P. Kinsella was a Canadian novelist who wrote the baseball themed book “Shoeless Joe.” Kinsella’s novel, went on to become the mega hit film “Field of Dreams” starring Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins and Ray Liotta. Kinsella recently died with the help of a physician in Vancouver, British Columbia. He was 81 years old. Doctor-assisted deaths became legal in Canada in June 2016. Details about his health were not disclosed.

Kinsella’s book inspired several phrases that have become wedged into both the Canadian and American lexicon.

“If you build it, they will come” and “Go the distance” – have taken their place as two of Hollywood’s most memorable movie lines.

Kinsella, loved baseball. He also loved the movie “Field of Dreams” which his book inspired. It was said he choked up and had tears in his eyes when he first saw it.
