Trump And The Collective Pain-Body – Can We Make It Go Away Now?

It’s about a month since the Orange Menace took the White House. I, like many, am still stunned and in shock.

There has to be a reason for this. Right? That’s what I’m asking myself anyway. This is the question I often ask when I don’t know how the hell a cruise ship has crashed into the roof of my house.

Enter Eckhart Tolle

Those of you familiar with Eckhart Tolle you will understand the term ‘pain-body.’

The pain-body is unresolved emotional pain from the past which creates a negative energy form within the human psyche. It has its active times and dormant times. Basically, whatever gets you riled up will stir up the pain-body.

The pain-body manifests within each human being, reflect the individuals past pain. The pain-body also manifests on a large mass scale to reflect the pain a group, region or country has endured.

Enter Donald Trump

So it was America’s collective pain-body, and the now President-elect Donald Trump’s instincts for marketing, which created an environment whereby half the voters were fooled into electing this orange, trash talking political novice. WTF? I still can’t believe it.

Author Eckhart Tolle in his book The Power of Now explains unresolved pain this way:

“The pain-body wants to survive, just like every other entity in existence, and it can only survive if it gets you to unconsciously identify with it. It can then rise up, take you over, ‘become you,’ and live through you. It needs to get its ‘food’ through you. It will feed on any experience that resonates with its own kind of energy, anything that creates further pain in whatever form: anger, destructiveness, hatred, grief, emotional drama, violence, and even illness. So the pain-body, when it has taken you over, will create a situation in your life that reflects back its own energy frequency for it to feed on. Pain can only feed on pain. Pain cannot feed on joy. It finds it quite indigestible.”

However, Tolle goes on to say:

“If we don’t provide space for the pain-body, we identify ourselves with it and believe every negative thought that it is telling us. The pain-body will feed on every negative thought that arises, and get more energy.”

Doesn’t that pretty much sum up a Trump rally?

It also explains why attacking Trump doesn’t work. The pain-body feeds on negativity.

In fact, it’ll make the pain-body fight harder. Have you ever noticed that? In yourself or others?

What To Do

Tolle suggests that when in the presence of someone with a triggered pain-body we need to become very present. It’s this space of non-judgment disables the pain-body and prevents it from feeding on negativity.

Tolle says,

“You can simply observe it, and be the witness, be the space for it. Then gradually, its energy will decrease.”

Over time, the pain-body will burn itself out. It always does. It may not be according to our schedule, but in the end healing is inevitable. If that doesn’t sound inspiring during these turbulent political times I don’t blame you.

You can still take action while offering mental space for the ‘starvation’ of what amounts to a gigantic political pain-body. Here’s a short list of things to do:

  1. Peaceful non-violent protests
  2. Writing to our senators urging them to be vigilant
  3. Polite political conversations with friends and acquaintances
  4. Take to social media and post respectful and insightful observations on today’s politics
  5. Create a website and post your political views from a place of compassion
  6. Watching/listening to news with a clear, open and spacious mind
  7. Watch the emotions that surface when listening or discussing the new Trump administration. Let it go and be that space for change.
  8. Witnessing your feelings will help you glean information, guide you and overall, help to dissolve this country’s collective pain-body. After all, each human being is connected through consciousness if nothing else.

Life Seeks Balance

Sometimes, it takes a wild swing in energy to find balance. The internal space of consciousness helps us find our center.

When enough of us find that space within, the pain-body dissolves. If we can concentrate long enough and hard enough on the space between our thoughts, change happens.

At that point, we may find that a Trump administration will be much shorter than we think.
