Richard Branson vs Hurricane Irma:
The fact is, it’s easier to get through many of life’s challenges with a big bank account.
Enter Richard Branson.
The Billionaire Braved It
Branson, who is, according to Forbes, worth about $5 billion, could afford to weather Hurricane Irma.
The Virgin Group founder, his guests and staff members were all staying on Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands.
Apparently, they managed to stay safe on Branson’s private island by hiding from the Category 5 storm in his concrete wine cellar.
When they emerged, the bathroom and bedroom doors and windows and been blown off.
He’s owned his island for more than 30 years. He’s seen three other hurricanes past by… without doing damage.
Nothing Like It
In a post on Virgin’s website on Thursday, Branson said that he had never seen anything like Irma before.
The hurricane did damage to about 90% of the island and took down all communications except satellite phones.
According to the Associated Press, Hurricane Irma, (Cat. 5) the strongest Atlantic hurricane on record, destroyed 90% of the island of Barbuda.
As well as, big damage to other areas such as St. Barts, St. Martin, the British Virgin Islands, and Anguilla.
A lesser storm of high winds and rain have also hit Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Hurricane Irma is expected to strike or nearly strike Florida over the weekend.
