Through my own experience and apprenticeship with a Spiritualist Healer, I have come to understand the human energy system very well. I bring all of what I’ve learned over the years to my work as an alternative therapist/life coach.
So it’s in that vein that I’d like to talk about….The 7 major chakra system — which is ancient.
Today, even those who know little about energy healing, auras or chakras, know about the 7 major chakras.
So, it’s in that vein I will be discussing how the emotional energy of shame and guilt get lodged in our energy field.
Many energy workers believe that the energy of shame is most strongly and consistently associated with the solar plexus chakra. Also known as Manipura or the third chakra.
These energy workers also believe this is where shame acts as the primary dark, negative or blocking emotion.
They also say that guilt is mostly situated in the sacral chakra, Svadhisthana or second chakra.
It’s also true that shame and guilt can influence or overlap with other within these two chakras.
Especially when layered with trauma, cultural conditioning, or karma.
I have a different view based on personal and observation experience.
It seems to me that shame sits most deeply in the second chakra and guilt is embedded in the third chakra.
I say this because a person does not usually feel shame without some interaction with at least one other person. I think shame is a somewhat more toxic emotion.
If it can be called this — I think that there is such a thing as ‘healthy’ guilt. A spiritual level, if we are doing something kind of naughty, even if we are unaware of it, we will get an intuitive hit of guilt. It may be very subtle, but the spiritual realm will give us a heads up when we are off base.
With shame, I think there has to be some form of humiliation attached to it. Which indicated there must some type of human interaction that goes along with it.
The second chakra governs one to one communication and relationships.
The third chakra governs our relationship with ourselves and how we communicate via the personality — with others.
So, this is why I make the distinction between shame and guilt and the second and third chakras.

Here’s a quick breakdown of how shame and guilt behave through the major chakra system.
When shame and guilt get deeply stuck in the third and second chakras they can reek havoc in the following ways;
- When guilt attacks the solar plexus chakra we tend to constantly ‘censor’ ourselves. We feel guilty for things we have nothing to do with. Other people can make us feel guilt easily even though we know we have not done anything wrong.
- Shame is often described as a “demon” or shadow emotion of the second/third chakra. It creates a deep sense of inherent defectiveness. As if there is something fundamentally wrong with me. It sometimes feels like an entity living inside of us that messes with our thought process and feelings.
- Shame and guilt tend to lead to a sense of contraction and collapse of personal power. It infects us with self-doubt, a sense of humiliation, demanding perfectionism, people-pleasing, and hiding one’s true self.
- Shame and guilt attack self-worth directly. It’s a deeply corrosive frequency that can be very difficult to overcome. It blocks our radiant, fiery energy of the solar plexus chakra and prevents a true sense of confidence .
- As a result of deep shame and guilt possession, our physical body will tighten up and develop muscle knots, there will be digestive issues, low energy, poor posture and back problems and adrenal fatigue.

When the energies of shame and guilt move into other chakras;
- Root Chakra (Muladhara – First Chakra): This chakra will primarily be blocked by fear when guilt and shame get in to it. These emotions tend to erode a sense of safety and security.
- Heart Chakra (Anahata – Fourth Chakra): This chakra will be mostly blocked by grief and rejection. Shame and guilt can close the heart through self-rejection, grief and fear of loss of a loved one.
- Throat Chakra (Vishuddha – Fifth Chakra): This chakra is blocked by lies. Whether they are told to ourselves or to others. Shame and guilt tend to silence our real voices and opinions.
- Third Eye Chakra (Ajna – Sixth Chakra): This chakra is blocked by illusion, fantasy or distorted intuition. Shame and guilt’s influence on this chakra is secondary. They most have the greatest influence over the lower three chakras.
- Crown Chakra (Sahasrara – Seventh Chakra at the crown): This chakra is blocked by a sense of materialism, attachment to things or a disconnection from spirit. Again, shame and guilt do not tend to affect this chakra directly. These blockages are indicative of deeply blocked lower chakras.
The bottom line is that shame and guilt tend to work in tandem when moving through our major chakras. They are insidious and do great damage. It takes a lot of healing and dedicated work to remove these destructive patterns in our energy system.
