Book still hold a special place in my heart as I know they do in many others.
Despite ubiquitous technology there is something the touch and feel of paper gives a human being which is immeasurable. So, with this in mind I’ve found a few very interesting fact about books.
Below are 11 interesting facts about books:
- The fear of running out of reading material is called Abibliophobia.
- The world’s smallest book is Teeny Ted from Turnip Town, measuring 100 micrometers by 70 micrometers.
- There are four law books bound in human skin at the Harvard University Library.
- Former American President Theodore Roosevelt read one book a day (it’s said).
- The longest sentence in English literature is found in Jonathan Coe’s novel “The Rotter’s Club,” which contains a staggering 13,955 words. Although, it’s often said the longest sentence in literature is 823 words long, written by Victor Hugo in Les Misérables.
- 1 in 5 adults worldwide cannot read or write.
- Up to 50 books can be made from 1 tree.
- 2.5 million copies of pulped Mills and Boon novels were used to build part of the M6 toll road in the UK.
- The largest book in the world is This The Prophet Mohamed, measuring 16.4 feet by 26.44 feet and weighing 3,306 pounds.
- The most expensive book is the Codex Leicester, a handwritten scientific journal by Leonardo da Vinci. Bill Gates bought it for $30.8 million in 1994.
- The first creative work to be made public domain is the Diamond Sutra, a Sanskrit text from 686 A.D.
