In this post I’m going to be commenting on a popular Reiki Training Institute online. It’s known as the International Center for Reiki Training.
I have NOT taken any courses through this training institute.
I’m offering my opinion on the ICRT. This is based on my years of energy work (both as a client and practitioner) and based on what I’ve found online about the ICRT.
My hope is, my commentary might give you a better understanding of what is offered in regard to popular Reiki training online. As well as, whether or not becoming a student of one is a good idea for you to do.
Unlike universities, popular Reiki Training institutes online are not accredited by mainstream academic or medical institutions.
So “legitimacy” is judged mostly by reputation and lineage within the spiritual-healing world. Which for me doesn’t necessarily equate to “legitimate” or even good.

In the energy healing community, most often, legitimacy means one of three things:
- The popular Reiki training school follows a recognized lineage (especially for Reiki or Tantra)
- The instructor is well-known and experienced in the community
- The training is connected to professional associations or directories
Below is my personal opinion of a popular Reiki training institute that has been around for many years.
My opinion is based on many years healing a severe life energy crisis. It was only a truly exceptional Spiritualist Healer who could help me.
I was at one point an Usui Reiki Master.
I tried many, many holistic and energy healing techniques before finding the Spiritualist Healer.
So, I know the energy healing ‘space’ if you will. I know it’s fraught with misunderstanding, ineffectiveness and outright dangerous spiritually techniques.

International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT)
Apparently this is one of the most respected organizations in energy healing.
Why it’s respected:
- Founded by Reiki teacher William Lee Rand
- Teaches Usui / Holy Fire Reiki
- Has an international network of licensed instructors
- Maintains a directory to verify certified teachers
All of the above sounds great.
However, as someone who was very much into Reiki healing, I quickly found this type of energy healing to be a tremendous limitation.
I will briefly explain.
Everyone has an energy field. Reiki practitioners send energy to an individual from a Higher Source through their own intention. The energy moves through their own energy field. Herein lays the problem.
This sounds great and can have real benefits. However, the Reiki practitioner as well as, the client, have no idea what is ‘living’ in the energy of the practitioner. Or even the client’s spiritual energy field.
Therefore, neither one of them know what can or will be filtered through the practitioner’s energy and into the client’s energy field.
This is not speculation.
No one can fully know this. We are all dealing with years and in fact lifetimes of karma/past lives/generational trauma/DNA encoding etc.
No one can know exactly everything they are carrying in their energy field/spirit/soul/aura.
Therefore, no one can fully know what they are passing on through their their energy along with the healing energy they are giving the client.
The bottom line is that whatever healing energy the Reiki practitioner is passing to the client will be tainted by whatever is in their own energy.
That’s not to say some people receive benefits from it.
It also means there can be other elements passed on that are corrupted which can cause damage or create an attachment to the client’s energy field.
For me personally, my energy was severely damaged which meant I was extremely susceptible to spiritual and energetic ‘contamination’.
Much like someone who is extra sensitive to dust because their lungs have been damaged by too much dust — they can not tolerate an even slightly dusty environment. Where most others can breathe okay in that same environment, the person with damaged lungs gets sick quickly.
So it is with Reiki energy.

It’s because of this filtering of the healing energy through the practitioner before it gets to the client that make Reiki either not very effective or sometimes down right dangerous and damaging.
I’m sure this opinion will be uncomfortable or unpopular for many.
However, I am speaking from personal experience as a practitioner and a client of energy healing.
I ditched Reiki and began to work with a Spiritualist Healer. After many years of ineffective and incomplete energy healing techniques, it was this Spiritualist Healer who helped me.
This healer was the only one to help on a long term basis because the healing itself came directly from God/The Divine/Source Creator – whatever you want to call it — and not from the Spiritualist Healer.
The Spiritualist Healer was merely putting in strong, intentional requests for the Divine to perform its healing on me.

Having said all that — The International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT) has begun to change its attunements based on channeled information that they say came from Jesus and other enlightened beings.
This is a great improvement and they say on their website that the healing energy their practitioners are now using has gotten much stronger as a result.
This is great news, although it still misses the mark. Our One Divine Source Creator – God – heals all.

As an individual human being the power we have to heal is based on the requests and petitions we use to God.
The real determining factors as to how effective we can be as energy healer facilitators are the following;
- Our faith in the requests we make to the Most High actually being fulfilled
- Our focus while we make those requests
- Our purity of heart while making them )We can’t be secretly judging someone while asking for their healing. Not much healing will happen that way).
So, although the International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT) has a great reputation and many years of helping others, it is based on what I consider to be a ‘faulty’ system.
True complete healing can only come directly from the Creative Source of All That Is.
Not through another individual’s energy field no matter how wonderful a person they may be.
They will have their own karmic iniquities and personal failings. We all have them.
The bottom line is, when you use Reiki on someone else and you’re funneling that energy through yourself to them — you are being naive and even reckless about how healing energy works.
So, there it is. This is my personal opinion on this popular Reiki training school — The International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT).
It’s also my understanding on the limitations of Reiki itself. It’s based on many years of extreme life energy experiences. I hope you’ve found this helpful in your own journey. Let it be so.
I wish you much imagination, Renee.
