Why You Need A Faraday Cage (VIDEO)

Posted on August 15, 2024June 17, 2025 By Writers Nexus No Comments on Why You Need A Faraday Cage (VIDEO)

Have you heard of a Faraday cage? Do you know what it does?

If you do, then you are in the minority. Which is why I’m writing this article now.

In a nutshell, a Faraday cage is a type of enclosure made of conductive material. The material can be made into a variety of items, including a bag, a box, shutters, curtains or a room and more.

The conductive material blocks external electric fields and electromagnetic radiation from entering or leaving the space inside it.

What this means is, that when we put our computer devices in side a Faraday cage, it can not receive or emit any type of frequency.

We are living in a world with so many incompatible frequencies, it’s a good idea to use a Faraday cage. Especially, when sleeping, traveling, or anytime you want to block at least some of the incompatible frequencies we are living with in the new millennium.

I have a couple of these Faraday cages in the form of pockets. They hold a cellphone quite nicely.

At night, I turn off my phone and slip it into the Faraday cage (bag) and put it in a drawer on the other side of the room.

Sleeping with a computer device on… can be detrimental to your sleep and thereby your nervous system.

How a Faraday Cage Works

In very simplistic scientific terms, this phenomenon is due to the redistribution of electric charges within the conductive material. This cancels out the electric field inside the cage.

Surprisingly, it’s a simple concept that was invented by the British scientist Michael Faraday in 1836!

Faraday’s experiments involved placing an electrically conductive mesh enclosure around a specific area and observing how it affected the electric field within that space.

He discovered that when an external electric field was applied to the cage, the charges in the conductive material would rearrange themselves in such a way that the electric field inside the cage was neutralized.

This principle is now widely used in various applications.

The Faraday material is now used in many applications. Mainly, in protecting people and equipment from electromagnetic interference and shielding sensitive scientific instruments.

The value of Faraday’s work can not be underestimated.

Who Is Michael Faraday?

Michael Faraday (1791–1867) was a prominent British scientist who made foundational contributions to the fields of electromagnetism and electro-chemistry.

Here are some key points about his life and work:

Early Life and Career:
  • Born in London to a poor family, Faraday received little formal education.
  • He started working as an apprentice to a bookbinder, which exposed him to scientific texts and inspired his interest in science.
  • His scientific career truly began when he became an assistant to the chemist Humphry Davy at the Royal Institution of Great Britain.
Major Contributions:
  • Electromagnetism: Faraday discovered electromagnetic induction, which is the principle behind electric generators and transformers. His work demonstrated that a variable magnetic field can create an electric current in a conductor.
  • Electro-chemistry: Faraday’s laws of electrolysis laid the groundwork for the field of electro-chemistry.
  • Faraday Cage: As previously mentioned, Faraday invented the Faraday cage, which blocks external static electric fields and electromagnetic radiation.
  • Despite his lack of formal education, Faraday’s contributions earned him significant recognition in his day. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1824 and later became its president.

These sources offer comprehensive insights into Faraday’s scientific contributions and his impact on modern science.

Below is a youtube video that gives a good overview of Faraday’s life and work.
