This is one of the first love letters I narrated. It is written and narrated by me (Renee).
I was surprised to see there has been a recent surge of interest in handwritten letters. It is a lost art that I have begun reviving for my own family and friends.
These Love Letters are an ongoing project to both celebrate handwritten letters, as well as, allow me to showcase my writing, narration and interest in this medium.
This particular letter – as most of them are -was inspired by the many war time letters sent by the ladies missing their men during WWII.
Below is the video and transcript I’ve created for this Love Letter. It includes Sound FX.
TRANSCRIPT #1 – The Love Letters Project
My Dearest Love;
I sit down to write this with your picture beside me and the house is so very quiet, save for the ticking of the clock and the wind outside the window.
It is strange how even the smallest sounds remind me of you.
Everything seems to be waiting for your return, just as I am.
I hope this letter finds you safe and warm, and that you are able, even for a moment, to rest. I
think of you constantly. When I wake in the morning, I wonder if you’ve slept well.
When night comes, I whisper a prayer for you before I turn out the light.
It comforts me to imagine that somewhere, under the same sky, you might be thinking of me too.
Life here goes on, though it feels thinner without you in it.
I keep busy as best I can. Laundry, dishes, dealing with the children. Bessie at the community center, avoiding being gossiped about.
Mother’s better. She misses you too. That might sound a little surprising, but she does.
She does care for you.
Life seems to be constantly churning here, but it all feels like empty water wheels without you. But there are moments when everything slows, and I feel the distance between us so sharply it almost takes my breath away.
Still, I remind myself that this sacrifice has meaning and that your courage is something that I will always be proud of.
Please know how deeply you are loved.
You give me strength, even from so far away.
When I feel afraid, I think of your smile, your voice, your wonderful voice.
The way you hold my hand.
The way you would look at me sometimes when I said something that I thought was funnier than it actually was.
These memories of you steady me. I carry you with me in all things. Come back to me when this is over.I hold fast to that hope.
The day I’ll see you walking toward me, safe and whole, and all this waiting will finally make sense.
Until then, my love, I give you my heart and every ounce of love I possess.
Yours, now and always, Samantha.
