AI’s Definition of Creativity Admits Humans Are More Innovative

Posted on June 30, 2024June 30, 2024 By Writers Nexus No Comments on AI’s Definition of Creativity Admits Humans Are More Innovative

Well, it seems even artificial intelligence can admit to not being imaginative like human beings are.

It’s nice to know it’s not the complete maniacal monster I think it is.

So, here is what AI says about the definition of creativity:

“Creativity is the ability to produce something novel and valuable, whether an intangible idea or a physical object. It involves forming original combinations of concepts to generate new and useful products.”

– Artificial Intelligence

Well, as you can see, AI has pulled the definition of creativity from the vast pool of blogs written by online creators and freelancers concerned about keywords.

That’s not what I would call a complete definition of creativity or even a completely accurate one.

AI systems tend to give a definition of creativity as it is programmed to see everything else; through a process of analyzing vast amounts of data to identify patterns, doing its best to make unexpected connections, and then offer up what it ‘thinks’ is a unique perspective.

Yeah.

However, the programmers and creators of AI would have it acknowledge that true creativity also requires certain human elements that machines lack. They say this even as they say that currently, AI is not as creative as human beings.

As if one day it will be.

That can only happen if the population keeps getting dumber.

Below are the Biggest Problems with AI and the reasons WHY it will never be more creative than we are:

  • Human beings can create imaginative leaps beyond just recombining existing data
  • Humans can add emotional depth and meaning into their creations
  • Human beings are wildly spontaneous and unpredictable which aides experimentation
  • Only humans can offer contextual understanding of experiences

While AI can enhance the creative process through automation, prompts and cross-domain insights, it cannot replicate authentic individual self-expression and originality.

And in my opinion… never will.

There is one last point I’d like to make regarding the definition of creativity and the role AI is now playing and may play in the future.

It’s AI’s potential to help human beings with problem-solving.

As they say, the best solution is often the simplest, which I’ve found to be true.

So, where does AI fit into this?

Based on data, AI can spot the trending nature from a birds eye view. This is something human beings can not do or only in a limited capacity. It is difficult for any one person to see anything from a 40,000 foot perspective. Artificial Intelligence can.

Problem Solving is a highly creative activity. It engages the mind in the same manner as any creative endeavor would.

If you want to create a beautiful painting or a can’t-turn-the-pages-fast-enough novel, it’s almost a necessity that you have at least some idea of the ending before you start. Most artists/writers will tell you this. Myself included.

That’s where AI can come in handy. If you have a problem to be solved, it’s critical that you have complete clarity on what the problem actually IS and what you want the outcome to be.

Data can help you get there, better and faster than you could without it.

Let’s look at an example of how AI can help us in problem solving;

If you have an online business that you want to get an increase of customers for, you need to know the who, whys, and hows of your current customer base.

You do that by analyzing the masses. The overall numbers of who is landing on your page, how they are behaving on it and why they actually click through and buy from you.

Artificial Intelligence is perfectly suited for this. The most successful businesses online use this daily to maintain and increase their businesses.

AI can scan the data infinitely faster than any human. This increases productivity. It supports adaptability and faster growth. AI can be a phenomenal tool for problem solving.

In the end, AI can be a very useful tool. Especially, with problem solving.

However, I find it difficult to believe that AI will ever go beyond the human ability to innovate.
