I love the rock music from the 70s and 80s. Once we moved into the 90s though things change.
It was probably 1992 or ’93. I remember standing in the kitchen of my boyfriend’s apartment. We had the radio on.
I turned to him and said, “I don’t like a lot of the music that’s coming out these days.”
He answered with, “Yeah. Me neither.”
And that was it. Music has never been the same. In fact, I think it’s become much worse.
This seems to be mostly due to the fact that technology is interfering with our ability to create.
Humans are allowing their creative process to be short cut by machines.
Hence, we get soulless music. Homogenized art. Unimaginative writing. Emotionless voices.
It’s to this point that I bring you the videos below. They are from a musician and music producer Rick Beato. I have no affiliation with him.
However, he has the experience and discernment of thought to offer very insightful reasons why our entertainment culture has devolved.
His field is specifically music. Although, I think much of what he says applies to what is happening in all creative fields.
One of the videos below includes a friend of his, Jim Barber. Barber has extensive experience in the music industry as well. Not the least of which was his time spent as an A & R executive at Geffen Records.
This is a critical conversation to be in on as they mention the Telecommunications Act signed by Bill Clinton in 1996.
So many of our laws we live with today were signed by presidents from generations ago. There is a ripple effect. What they sell these bills as before turn into something very different afterward.
If you care about music or art in general, you will get a lot out these videos.
Thank you for reading. I wish you a very prosperous day.
